Do I need a commercial Kitchen to prep Flavor Syrup?

Ok, I just took the first step by buying a commercial shave ice machine. It's a Yescom Commercial 250W 440lb/h Dual Stainless Steel Blade Countertop Electric Ice Shaver Maker Crusher Snow Cone Machine.

However, winter is setting in where I live. So I have to plan for next year. Buying the shaved Ice machine was the first step. And it was a cheap investment for the time being in case my plans go up in smoke. (Joke)

The next thing to do by next year off spring-summer, is to get a sellers permit and etc. But one of the big hurls, that I think might be a problem is owning a Commerical Kitchen to prepare from.

Do we need a commercial kitchen to prep our flavor syrup and ingredients?
And if theirs alternative to navigate around this obstacle. I would like to hear it.

I know all states have their own requirements for running a business. But since I'm planning to take one foot and dip it into a small business. I'm going to be doing it at farmer markets and events.

Again any advice would be much appreciated.

As you wrote, each state, and sometimes each County has its own requirements. First question would be are you going to have a 3 bay sink and a hand sink with hot and cold running water available? Second question is this a mobile or stationary sales unit (Truck or trailer, kiosk or a Brick and mortar store)?

I can only guess Health Dept requirements but most likely if you have the 3 bay and hand sink, you most likely won't need a commercial kitchen. However if you do, then try renting space in one that already exists. There are restaurant owners that might rent you off-time, and if their kitchen passes Health rules then you have a kitchen without a huge investment.

If your unit is mobile, and it is very small, most likely you'll need a commercial kitchen. If the mobile unit is large then probably not.

If you have a mobile unit, and you are going into more than one County, then each County will issue a separate permit and each will have its own requirement.

Another question. If you are making your own ice where will your freezer be located? You may also be questioned on the water supply and the hoses you use to fill the water/ice containers.

Best to talk to the Health Department before investing, it could save you a lot of headache and money.

Congratulations and welcome to the forum. Just for the record, you bought a snow cone machine, despite what anyone tells you or what the box said, this is not going to shave ice, it is going to crush ice and give you a snow cone. That's not bad, you just have to know what you have and what you are selling to people.
