Re: Looking for advice in selling at schools

I don't think you need to go overboard with marketing in order to sell in schools. All you need is a nice looking truck, a decent website, and a well-crafted email to send to the principal of the school. Keep the email short. They are getting hit up for fundraising opportunities all the time. If you...

Re: Kona Ice

haha, well okay Kick back perhaps is the more correct term but that is a huge plus into getting to these events. Now where the money goes to I can't guarantee, hopefully it is directly to the non profit/cause and not any individual. That being said, I think it is a good idea to get into schools and...

Re: Ice Blocks

Thanks for the update.

I've never used the Snowie block ice shaver, but try one of the New Orleans style shavers (horizontal block shavers). With sharp blades and practice you can get very soft snow.

Re: Ice Blocks

Please report back once you've used it a few times. I love the idea behind these machines. I really like that you fill the bags with water and then freeze them. My only concern is how well the blocks will release from the bags.

Re: Ice Blocks

Is this the machine that freezes with metal plates rather than a propylene glycol mix?

Re: Real story on Kona Ice?

@shavedicetrucks I'm glad Kona is working out for you. I'm curious, do you have a single franchised territory and one truck, or are you doing multiples? I like the flat royalty Kona requires rather than an 8% rate like other franchises, but I think it starts at $3k and then increases to $3500 and th...

Re: Kona Ice

Let's be honest here. Kona isn't giving a donation to schools. The more accurate term is "kickback."

I'm not saying others don't do the same thing, but it's nothing more than a kickback marketed as giving back to the community.

Re: How much money can I expect to make a day (ball-park) with a storefront?

Short answer: It's unlikely you will take home $100k-$150k a year, at least for a while. Longer answer: For every storefront that makes a fortune selling flavored H20 and sugar, there are others that barely scrape by, or end in bankruptcy. Building out a storefront is a significant investment. You n...

About average weather here for this time of year. We open Mid-March and so far have had good weather 2 of 3 weekends.

Re: Horizontal Feed Sno Shack Block Shaver

After playing with it more today I suspect it is a user error. I bought the huts with no experience in the business and I didn't really get trained. I think it has to do with how and when I am packing the ice. I am looking for some youtube videos that will help guide me. Does anyone have any tips i...
