Buying Vintage Japanese Shaver

Postby Monty » Thu Jul 03, 2014 7:55 am

Hello there,

I''m looking to buy a vintage, manual Japanese ice shaving machine. I was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction to find one. I've seen a few on Ebay, but am waiting on something special for a new business venture.

If anyone has any advice on particular models/or information on where to purchase a good machine I'm all ears.

Thanks

There are quite a few vintage shavers out there, first thing I would check to make sure is that it is indeed vintage. Branding is hard since during that era there were dozens of shave ice manufacturers. The ones built in the 40s-50s are most popular. The ones sold are usually made in Japan. Make sure to not over pay for it! IMO I would not pay more than $500 for one, unless it is in perfect condition and is still useable which rarely happens. Most are rusted and not able to be shaved.

I collect and sometimes sell Vintage Japanese Shavers. What size are you interested in? I have two that are the small rare ones 17 3/4 inches tall x 10 3/4 wide x 8 1/2 deep, one that is very unique and rare with a satellite, telescope and ship measuring a bite bigger 24.5 inches tall, 10.5 deep x 11 .75 wide. then one that is much bigger probably about 30 inches high, x 18.1 wide x 34 inches wide. Some of my shavers are ready to shave except for maybe sharpening the blade and others one may want to refinish. All depends on the look you want.
I tried to attach photos but wasn't successful. If you are interested in seeing what I have email me with your personal email so I can send you photos.

The vintage manual machines are very basic with few parts so if they are all there and working then you just need to make sure you have a sharpened blade and practice.
